Lassen Energy will employ its new technology by combining low cost solar and hydrogen together to produce the one of the world’s first Hybrid Power Plants creating sustainable energy 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

Hydrogen and fuel cells have the potential to solve several major challenges facing America today: dependence on petroleum imports, poor air quality, and greenhouse gas emissions. The Hydrogen, Fuel Cells & Infrastructure Technologies Program is working with partners to accelerate the development and successful market introduction of these technologies.

A recent scientific project has found that introducing hydrogen into the energy system would reduce the total oil consumption by the road transport sector by 40% between now and 2020. By taking a leading position in the worldwide market for hydrogen technologies, Lassen Energy Corporation hopes to open up new economic opportunities and strengthen worldwide competitiveness in an oil driven age. However, the analysis also shows that transition won't happen automatically. Substantial barriers have first to be overcome, ranging from economic and technological to institutional barriers, and actions must be taken as soon as possible. The production of hydrogen from fossil fuels using carbon capture and storage will make a significant contribution to reducing CO2 emissions. Furthermore, the introduction of hydrogen into the energy system offers the opportunity to increase the ratio of renewable energy, and help the large-scale introduction of solar energy through its use as viable energy storage.
